Tips on How to Use a Smoker

!±8± Tips on How to Use a Smoker

Once you know how to use a smoker, cookouts will never be the same again. If you have ever been tempted to toss your grill and try smoking your meat but didn't know how to use a smoker, fear not! Using a smoker is easier than lighting a barbeque and it produces tastier meat.

A smoker is a piece of equipment that cooks food over heat created by burning wood, rather than burning coals. Once you have the know-how to use a smoker you will be able to make terrific food with unbelievable flavor. The secret to knowing how to use a smoker is all in the wood. Each type of wood used in a smoker creates a different flavor to the food. Mesquite wood gives your steak or your salmon a robust flavor, while oak or hickory adds a completely diverse flavor.

The first thing to do is find a location where there will be as little traffic as possible. Usually cooking with a smoker will take some time and occasionally the smoker will be left unattended so it should be in an area where children and pets are not likely to go. Wind conditions should also be taken into consideration so that smoke is not entering the house or interfering with outdoor activities.

A typical smoker has two barrels at the bottom. Build a fire at the base of the barrels with whatever type of wood you choose to cook with. Heat the wood for at least an hour. Those who know how to use a smoker will tell you that the key to making the best meals is to know just how long to heat the wood, and how much wood should be added to the steamer once you start. You want the wood to burn at a nice even temperature. This takes some practice so don't despair if you don't get it right the first time.

Once the wood has been thoroughly heated, you can add your food. You will need to monitor the temperature on a regular basis while the food is being smoked. Cooks who know how to use a smoker will tell you to that it takes practice to know when to adjust your flues and your dampers but that keeping the right temperature is the key to turning out delicious smoked food.

You have tons of options when cooking with a smoker. Not only can you pick between lots of different types of wood to give your food flavor, you can also experiment on smoking lots of different types of foods. Cooks who know how to use a smoker to their advantage not only smoke more than one kind of meat at a time (try smoking a turkey and steak at the same time) they also try different foods. Wait till you try chili in your smoker!

Seriously, once you know how to use a smoker, there is a whole new world of cooking experiences waiting for you!

Ducane Grills - Is A Ducane Grill Suitable For You?

!±8± Ducane Grills - Is A Ducane Grill Suitable For You?

The Ducane grill has been used up and down the country for many years now as people continue to enjoy a traditional barbecue. Many people enjoy their barbecues and expect their barbecue grills to be up to the task, which means they are looking for a gas grill that is sturdy, reliable and is more than capable of cooking their meats correctly!

Choosing which barbecue grill to buy is a serious decision; they can be very costly depending on which models you are looking at. Like any other market, there are many manufacturers to choose from, some more reliable than others. Some of the more well known grill manufacturers, include the likes of Ducane, Weber, DCS, Lazyman, etc.

The Ducane Company has been manufacturing gas grills for approximately 30 years now and has many faithful customers. Many people who have bought Ducane in the past continue to buy Ducane in the future. But is this faith well founded?

There's no question that a Ducane grill is well built and is both durable and reliable. They also offer a lifetime guarantee for a very small fee if you are concerned about lastability. However, one of the major criticisms often leveled at them is the lack of heat that their grills can generate. Many have found them very slow to generate the heat required for some of the meats they are cooking. This certainly could be very frustrating.

So is this criticism well founded? Well, they say there's no smoke without fire! However, regular Ducane owners suggest that as long as you follow the directions that come with the Ducane gas grill and regularly maintain your grill, then you shouldn't have any problems.

I was always told...you get what you pay for. And while this isn't always true, I find it usually is. I recommend that before you buy any gas grill that you do some research on the company and what buyers think of their products.

Cooking Chicken on the Grill - Facing The Grilling Time Dilemma

Have you ever tried to cook chicken on a grill? Do you often get stuck with the chicken grilling time dilemma? Very few of us are successful in grilling chicken, especially those who practice it only over the weekend. Several days efforts are needed to learn how to get that perfect grilled chicken with mouthwatering aroma and taste. Any wrong estimation of gas grill cooking time for chicken will actually land you in a soup if you do not follow the right method. Timing is crucial for a nicely grilled chicken. So, read on if you want to avoid overcooked, uncooked or burnt chicken and enjoy a great barbecue party at home.

Know When Your Chicken is Cooked

It is important to know the exact time to cook chicken on a grill so that you get the desired results. The best way is to grill chicken on a low heat (230 degrees F. to 250 degrees F.) for about 45 minutes or maybe just a few minutes, depending upon how hot the grill is. A meat thermometer will help you to monitor the internal temperature of the meat without slicing it in the grill. Thus, you'll be able to avoid the releasing of moisture in the grill while cooking and will also reduce your chances of undercooking or overcooking.

The Right Cooking Time for Chicken - With or Without Bones

If you are cooking for the first time, you need to keep in mind whether the chicken is boneless or not. In case of boneless chicken, the internal temperature is about 170 degree F. when it is fully done. The ideal chicken cook time for bones is 180 degree F.

Tips for the Perfect Taste

Those who have an iron grate on the grill need to brush it with vegetable oil and olive oil before grilling the chicken. This will help to prevent the chicken from getting stuck to the grill while cooking. Those who are using gas bbq grill can prepare some of the best and tasty barbequed chicken by keeping in mind the various factors affecting the chicken cooking time.

If you baste your grilled chicken with BBQ sauce you will surely have your guests wanting for more. It gives a mouthwatering taste to the chicken prepared in gas bbq grill, but if used before the grilling, the chicken can burn and taste bitter as the sugar in the sauce burn with the chicken.

Pre-Serving Tips

Once you have cooked your chicken in a gas bbq grill or any other grill, let it rest for some time before cutting it into slices. If you start cutting the hot chicken immediately after taking it off the grill, the fluids may run out of the meat, reducing its softness. If the chicken is allowed to rest for some time in a grill after being cooked this won't happen.

So next time, you plan a party outdoors, make a sumptuous meal of grilled chicken and enjoy it with your family and friends.

Check Out These Cookbooks From Weber Grills

!±8± Check Out These Cookbooks From Weber Grills

People who have Weber barbecue grills know this - that every time we purchase any model of Weber grills, there is a free cookbook that goes with it. But aside from the cookbooks that come with every grill purchased, there are also other cookbooks from Weber Grills which may be bought in bookstores. Let's take a look at a couple of Weber grilling books that we, barbecue lovers, would love to own.

The "Weber's Real Grilling: Over 200 Original Recipes," by Jamie Purviance is one of the Weber grilling books that is highly recommended. From the title itself, we would know that this book contains several recipes for grilling. However, what makes this book different from the other Weber grilling books available is that the procedures are lengthily explained, allowing readers to understand the recipes better. This, of course, will allow readers to prepare food in a more accurate manner. Despite the fact that Weber Grills is one of the publishers of this book, it does not mention specific brands as a form of endorsement. It is also a credible book because Purviance is a well-known writer who graduated from the Culinary Institute of America. Among the recipes included in this Weber grilling book are those for vegetables, fish, poultry, pork, and red meat. The other publisher of this book is Oxmoor House. With 304 pages, this costs US.95 but there are bookstores that offer it at a discount.

The "Weber's Art of the Grill: Recipes for Outdoor Living," by Jamie Purviance, Tim Turner, and Mike Kempster is also a well-recommended book for grilling. Its original price is US.00 but we may find discounted copies for as low as US.40, which is not bad for a hard-bound book. It of course includes recipes for vegetables, seafood, chicken, and meats but what makes it different from the other cookbooks is that it also teaches us various ways of cooking. For example, it teaches us how to cook directly and indirectly, and it suggests which sauces should be applied to the foods that would be grilled. Among the sauces mentioned in this Weber grilling book are hot pepper vinegar sauce, Dijon wine sauce, and honey-gingered peach sauce. Reading this book is a lot of fun as it suggests recipes for grilled desserts as well. The co-publisher of Weber Grills for this book is Chronicle Books. Released in bookstores on March 1, 1999, this Weber grilling book features 208 pages with dimensions of 10.1 inches x 9.1 inches x 1 inch. This book should not be compared with "Weber's Real Grilling: Over 200 Original Recipes" because authors made sure that the former has its own style. While we will enjoy reading "Weber's Real Grilling: Over 200 Original Recipes," we will also have fun reading "Weber's Art of the Grill: Recipes for Outdoor Living" because the recipes are very easy to follow.

Why not grab a copy of any of these Weber grilling books? Getting ideas from these books will certainly make grilling more exciting and enjoyable.

Infrared Barbecue Gas Grills

!±8± Infrared Barbecue Gas Grills

Grilling outside has always been thought of as a traditional American hobby. However, there is a growing trend that is revolutionizing how we barbecue our food. Infrared gas grill reviews have revealed the new technology people are using now, because it is said to add more flavor to the food.

Unlike charcoal grills, infrared bbq gas grills are all designed to be set up and used in only a few minutes. Also, the actual cook-up of the food is lessened significantly. When it comes to flavor, infrared grilling provides a direct source of heat to the food and thus permits the natural flavor to simmer more than grilling with charcoal.

Since intense direct heat is applied all throughout the grill, the food is allowed to cook evenly instead of overcooking or under cooking portions of the food. Also, when grilling with charcoal or gas grills, you also should supervise it constantly and be on the look-out for stain flare-ups. Infrared bbq grilling does not permit heat inside so there are no accidents of flare-ups.

However, if you are thinking of buying infrared grills, you should take note of the difference between gas grills and infrared grills. They are both fueled by gas but the difference is on the source of heat.

Reviews of infrared gas barbecues say they have ceramic tops with their source of heat hidden. A benefit of the infrared grill is the intensive heat that it can produce on the cooking grid. However, you cannot control the temperature for a lower heat source.

Generally, infrared grills are more efficient to use, more dependable, and add flavor. If you find it pleasurable to grill outdoors, then you need to try infrared grilling.
